Four Monarch Wrestlers Ranked Nationally This Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Senior Te Edwards moved up in the top-10 and was one of four Old Dominion wrestlers ranked in this week’s national rankings.

Edwards improved to 8-1 on the season on Sunday when he bested then No. 7 Chris Spangler from Iowa State, 5-4, in a thrilling top-10 match.  The senior is ranked No. 7 this week by Amateur Wrestling News, No. 8 by and No. 9 by InterMat Wrestling.

Redshirt sophomore John Nicholson moved to 8-2 on the season after a dominating 23-8 tech fall of the Cyclones’ Luke Swalla on Sunday. He moves up the No. 14 in the rankings by Amateur Wrestling News, No. 15 by InterMat Wrestling and No. 16 by

Breaking into the rankings for the first time this season are senior Joe Budi who came in at No. 29 by and redshirt sophomore Justin LaValle who entered at No. 33 by Wrestling

Budi is 7-2 so far this season at 197 pounds with two falls and a major decision over Iowa State’s Cole Shafter on Sunday, 11-0. LaValle also picked up a win against the Cyclones in helping the Monarchs upset No. 23 Iowa State, 21-16. He defeated RJ Hallman, 6-2, to improve to 6-3 this season with a tech fall and a pair of major decisions.

The Monarchs break for Thanksgiving and return to action next weekend when they hit the road to face Rutgers on Dec. 2 and then Princeton and Rider on Dec. 3.
