NORFOLK, Va. -- Members of the UT-San Antonio athletic department were on campus on Wednesday taking a look at the ODU football program and its facilities.

Among the Roadrunner staff in Norfolk was head coach Larry Coker, who many may remember at the helm of the Miami (Fla.) Hurricane program from 2001-06. Coker posted a 60-15 (.800 winning percentage) in his six seasons with the Hurricanes, guiding them to the 2001 National Championship.

UT-San Antonio begins practice this fall and will play the 2011 and 2012 season as an FCS Independent before joining the Southland Conference in 2013.

The Old Dominion football team, in its inaugural season of FCS football, concluded the 2009 slate at 9-2 overall as the winningest FCS start-up program in history. The Monarchs ended the year on a six-game win streak and will take on national semifinalist William & Mary and perennial top 25 member Cal-Poly in 2010, before entering the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), the toughest FCS conference in the nation, in 2011. The Monarchs finished the year ranked in the top ten in five statisical categories as a team including second in sacks allowed, third in scoring offense, turnover margin, and net punting, and ninth in rushing offense.
