Wrestling Ranked No. 23 in NWCA Preseason Top-25 Poll

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University comes into the 2012-13 season ranked at No. 23 nationally as announced on Wednesday in the preseason USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll.

Minnesota will start the season as the No. 1 nationally ranked team, followed by Penn St. and Oklahoma St.

ODU will be tested as the Monarchs meet four nationally preseason ranked schools in dual matches throughout this season. Old Dominion will take on Missouri (No. 7), Virginia Tech (No. 12), Virginia (No. 16), and Central Michigan (No. 17) during the upcoming months.

The Monarchs will square off against four of the seven teams that also received votes for the poll when ODU wrestles Binghamton, Purdue, Iowa St., and American.

Old Dominion could also face four other nationally preseason ranked teams in the 2013 Virginia Duals on January 11-12 at the Hampton Coliseum. Central Michigan (No. 17), Edinboro (No. 20), Kent St. (No. 22), and Boise St. (No. 24) are all set to compete at the Virginia Duals.

After a record breaking 2011-12 season, ODU finished the year ranked No. 24 in the country. Old Dominion sent a school-record seven wrestlers to the 2012 NCAA tournament. The Monarchs return five of those seven wrestlers and all five wrestlers have already earned preseason national rankings. Jerome Robinson (125), Scott Festejo (133), Justin LaValle (141), John Nicholson (157), and Tristan Warner (165) will lead Old Dominion on the mat this year.

ODU will open the season in the Knight Point Open in Clarion, Pa. on Nov. 4. The Monarchs will host their first home match when Wisconsin comes to town on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
