CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Old Dominion University lost the first five matches on Saturday, won the next four but it wasn't enough as Northern Iowa escaped with a 19-15 win by winning the last match of the day.

James Nicholson gave the Monarchs' their first win of the night at 125 to close the gap to 16-3 with a 6-1 decision over Caleb Flores. Nicholson started the scoring with a first period takedown for the early 2-0 lead and added to the lead with an escape to open the second period and a takedown to take control.

Kyle Hutter followed suit with a 4-0 win over Ryan Jauch. Hutter need just one takedown in the match, using an escape and riding time to secure the victory.

ODU made it three-straight win when Brennan Brumley pinned Aaron Senzee in the third period at 141-pounds to bring ODU to within four at 16-12. After a scoreless first period, Brumley dominated and held a 5-0 lead before the pin.

The Monarchs pulled even closer after Joey Metzler cruised to a 9-2 decision over Jamal Lawrence. Metzler used an escape, a takedown and a three-point nearfall to take control and never looked back in the win.

David Bonin took down Chad Lowman 37 seconds into overtime to pull out a 6-4 sudden victory decision and clinch the team win for UNI. Lowman jumped on top early, taking down Bonin twice in the first period to hold a 4-1 lead. Bonin began the second period on the bottom and rolled Nicholson over for a two-point reversal. Lowman escaped but Bonin held a riding time advantage over a minute to tie the score at four and send it into overtime.

Old Dominion lost the first five matches to fall into a 16-0 hole that proved to much to overcome.

"The kids wrestled hard in a tough environment that will help us get ready for the NCAA Tournament," ODU head coach Steve Martin said. "We still have several weights up for grabs and competitions like this allow us to see who is the best fit for our lineup this year. We are looking forward to our Iowa State match tomorrow. This road trip will definitely help our guys learn how to deal with adversity and get ready for March."
