Former Monarchs To Play In US Open

PEBBLE BEACH, CA -- Old Dominion University golf alumns Jim McGovern ('88) and Joe Daley ('83) are in this week's U.S. Open after qualifying last week at the Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, NJ.

McGovern finished fourth in the 36-hole rain shortened event, firing 70-71-141. Daley finished 11th after a 71-75 -146.

McGovern has one PGA title under his belt. He won the Houston Open in 1993. While at Old Dominion, he was a two- time All-Sun Belt Conference performer, finishing third in 1988 and 1987. He was the Virginia Collegiate State Champion in 1987.

Daley's best outing was a 12th place finish at the Greater Hartford Open in 1997. While at Old Dominion, Daley earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 1983 with a fifth place finish.
