Jordan and Guerrero Named Athletes Of the Year

NORFOLK, VA--Women's basketball senior T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) and senior men's golfer Stan Guerrero ( Mexico) were named Athletes of the Year by the Old Dominion University Alumni Association, while senior women's golfer Bailey Mosier (Las Vegas, NV.) and senior baseball pitcher Ryan Bergh (Reddick, FL.) were named the 2008 recipients of the Jack Wilkins/James Howard Scholar Athletes of the Year at the annual Old Dominion University Athletic honors banquet and Hall of Fame induction at the Ted Constant Convocation Center Tuesday night.

Jordan is ODU's and the Colonial Athletic Association's all-time three-point scorer with 323. A two-time CAA Tournament MVP who scored 1,525 career points and helped lead the lady Monarchs to a 31-5 record and the NCAA "sweet 16". Jordan ranked 45th nationally in three-pointers and scored 28 points against Charlotte, 24 against Michigan State, and 22 against Kentucky. She was the Lady Monarchs leading scorer and was recently named the Portsmouth Sports Club College Female Athlete of the Year. She is ODU's13th all-time leading scorer.

Guerrero helped lead the Monarchs to a second place finish in this year's CAA championships. He compiled a 71.9 stroke average in the fall and overall a 73.2 average. He placed third at Hartford, seventh at VCU and fifth at the ODU-Seascape along with five top 15 finishes. Guerrero was named first team All-CAA and last year was the CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year for golf and the Golf Coaches Association's selection to the National All-Academic squad.

The Jack Wilkins/James Howard Scholar Athletes of the Year are presented to the male and female senior athletes with the highest cumulative grade point average. Both Howard and Wilkins were instrumental in the formation of the ODU Intercollegiate Foundation.

This year's male recipient is Ryan Bergh from the baseball squad. The righthander is currently 5-4 with a 3.07 earned run average, which ranks second in the CAA. He is also tied for second in the CAA with four complete games. He struck out a career tying eight batters in a win over Northeastern, this past weekend Bergh carries a 3.51 grade point average in sports management.

The female recipient is Bailey Mosier from the women's golf team. Bailey is a finalist for the prestigious Kaufman prize at Old Dominion. She was selected by the University as a representative in USA TODAY's "Best and Brightest" competition both in 2007 and 2008. On the golf course, Mosier compiled an 83.2 stroke average, finishing 13th at El Diablo and 19th at the ODU Invitational. She carries a 3.83 grade point average in communications.

Old Dominion University also inducted five new members into the school's Sports Hall of Fame. They included Mary Kay Bolduc (Swimming and Diving), Bob Pritchett (Basketball), Heather Pescatello (Sailing), Nyree Roberts (Basketball), and Mimi Smith (Field Hockey).

In addition, the Alumni Association Most Valuable Players from each sport were recognized. They are as follows:
