ATHENS, GA -- Old Dominion sophomore Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) advanced to the round of 32 with a win over Utah's Zach Ganger Wednesday afternoon. It was Srugo's 60th career victory in singles as he improved to 60-19 with the win. Currently ranked 29th in the nation, Srugo will play in the second round on Thursday at 11:30 am against 14th ranked Luis Flores (UGA). The Monarchs other qualifier, senior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was eliminated from singles competition by nationally ranked Travis Helgeson (Georgia) but will play in doubles Thursday night alongside Srugo.

After suffering a first set loss to Ganger 4-6, Srugo rebounded and won the second set 7-5 and breezed through the third 6-0 to advance. As a freshman, Srugo advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Clemson's Clement Reix 6-4, 6-3. This year, he will hope to advance to the Round of 16 with a win over Luis Flores (Georgia). The ODU sophomore has not played Flores yet this season and it should be a battle, as both have been ranked among the top 15 in singles this season.

Cancado fell 6-4, 6-3 to the 12th ranked tennis player in the country in Helgeson. The loss dropped Cancado's season singles record to 32-11 and his career mark to 93-39. He will team with Srugo Thursday evening as they face Notre Dame's Ryan Keckley and Sheeva Parbhu.
