NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University will dedicate the newly constructed pier and surrounding wetland restoration on the Elizabeth River on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the ODU Sailing Center.
The recently completed project features a new 500-foot pier that connects the sailing center to the Elizabeth River and includes a 160-foot floating dock that allows for easy access in and out of the water for Monarch sailors. This replaces the previous pier, which suffered irreparable damage back in the fall when Hurricane Irene swept through the Hampton Roads area.
Also completed recently was the wetland restoration project around the dock and the sailing center by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the city of Norfolk and Old Dominion University.
All faculty/staff, ODU students, sailors, family members and fans are invited to attend the dedication. The Old Dominion Sailing team returns to action this weekend when they host the MAISA Women's Conference Championship on the Elizabeth River.
