MORGANTOWN, WV - Seven Old Dominion wrestlers traveled to Morgantown, WV, to compete in the 23rd annual West Virginia Open Nov. 7.  Junior transfer Shanon Slack (Richmond, VA/141 lbs) led the way for the Monarchs, placing third after going 8-1 for the day.  Freshman B.J. Compton (Christiansburg, VA/133 lbs) also had a solid day, knocking off nationally ranked opponents.  There was no team score for the event.

B.J. Compton had an impressive day at 133 pounds, beating Clarion's Sean Farley by a 21-8 major decision, Appalachian State's Terryll Williams by a 2-1 decision and then beating 17th ranked Josh Keefe of UT-Chattanooga by a 12-11 decision.  Compton fell in the semifinals to West Virginia's Seth Lisa, the eventual champion, by a 5-2 decision, then came back through the consolations to the third-place bout before defaulting.

Shanon Slack started off slow, and fell to Clarion's Frank Edgar, ranked 16th in the nation in the second round by an 8-5 decision. Edgar went on to win the tournament. Slack then reeled off seven straight wins, beating Michael Keefe of UT-Chattanooga, also ranked 17th, in the third place bout.

Freshman Hunter Davenport (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) and Sophomore transfer Nick Pullano (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) each won four matches apiece.

John Downin (Herndon, VA) and John Adams (Chesapeake, VA/Deep Creek) also won matches.
