Cook's Game-Winner Lifts Women's Soccer in Overtime

RADFORD, Va. - Amber Cook scored two minutes into overtime with a shot from the middle of the field, beating the Radford goalkeeper to the right, to give Old Dominion University women's soccer a 2-1 overtime win Sunday afternoon at Radford.

The win lifts ODU to a 2-1-1 record on the year while the Highlanders fall to 4-2.

Just two minutes into overtime, Amber Cook gave ODU the victory with a shot from the middle of the field that beat the Radford goalkeeper to the right. It is the second goal of the season for the freshman and the first game-winner of her career.

The Lady Monarchs got on the board first in the match on Evans' goal in the 30th minute. After a scrum in the box, Evans gathered the ball, and blasted a shot to the left of the Radford keeper to give ODU the 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of Evans' career.

Radford tied the score in the 58th minute on a Julie Ruh'e goal. Ruh'e received a give and go from Latrice Lee and found the back of the net to tie the score.

Despite dominating possession in the second half, outshooting Radford 17-3, and in corner kicks, 5-1, the Lady Monarchs were unable to find the back of the net.

ODU outshot RU 23-10 and led in corner kicks, 7-4. Jocelyn Weidner led ODU with six shots while Kate Kelly added four.

Brianna Alvarado earned the win in goal for ODU, making five saves while Che' Brown made eight stops for the Highlanders.

The Lady Monarchs return home to host NC State on Friday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
