Smith's Goal Lifts #16 ODU Past GMU, 12-11

FAIRFAX, VA. -- Senior midfielder Marlaine Smith (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored with three seconds remaining in regulation to lift 16th ranked Old Dominion to a come-from-behind 12-11 victory over George Mason Wednesday afternoon. ODU is now 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the CAA.

In a frantic finish, George Mason led, 11-10, but Jennifer Heister (Fayetteville, NY.) tied the match with 23 seconds left. After an offsides call on GMU, ODU got the ball and Smith scored the winning tally in the final seconds of the match.

ODU was led by Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Jennifer Heister (Fayetteville, NY.) with three goals each. Janine Rodriguez and Molly Coane (Bay Shore, NY.) each scored two goals for the Lady Monarchs. George Mason was led by Jill Toomey with four goals.

Old Dominion sophomore goalie Beth O'Leary (Manlius, NY.) recorded 11 saves for the Lady Monarchs who have now won three straight matches. ODU returns to action on Saturday when they travel to national power Maryland at 1 p.m.
