Nov. 11, 2008
A weekly Q&A with an Old Dominion University football player
When did you begin playing football?
I started playing football when I was about 7 years old
Who has had the greatest impact on your career?
My dad with the football aspect and my mom with the school part
Why did you choose to attend ODU?
Because I wanted to be a part of something that not a lot of people would ever get the chance to be a part of
What has been the biggest difference between high school football and college football?
The amount of time spent doing football related things such as meetings, practices and lifting weights. Especially the 6 a.m. lifts.
What has it been the best part about being a member of ODU’s first football team in over 60 years?
Seeing everyone on campus excited about ODU football
If you could play another position what would it be and why?
I would love to be a running back because it would be a great feeling knowing you can change the game with every run you have.
Favorite sports other than your own?
I can really watch any sport, but I guess I would have to say basketball although I'm not that good.
After meeting Coach Wilder for the first time, what were your thoughts?
That he was a really nice guy, he was easy to talk to and he was serious about starting a program and succeeding right away. To put it into two simple words he was "AIMING HIGH"
After meeting your position coach for the first time, what were your thoughts?
When I met Coach Cotton for the first time I thought that he was going to be a great coach and that I could go to him about any problem I was having. I had a very comfortable feeling about him.
Do you have a pre-game ritual, if so what is it?
I make sure I show up early to get in the hot tubs, stretch a little bit, get into my pads, listen to my iPod at full blast and get my mind cleared.
What is your funniest memory from an ODU practice thus far?
Listening every practice to all of the coaches’ little quotes about things, such as Coach Scott’s "YOU’RE SOFT!" or Coach Cotton’s "BABY NEED SHOES!".
If you could line up opposite any player in the NFL and go 1-on-1, who would it be and why?
I would line up against the retired Baltimore Raven John Ogden because it would be a win-win situation. If I beat him then I win, if I lose it’s John Ogden so it wouldn’t really matter.
What song is stuck in your head right now?
Live Your Life by T.I.
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
That I am a very avid outdoorsman I love to hunt and fish anytime I get the chance.
What is your dream job?
To be a coach in the NFL.
What is your most valued possession?
My most valued possession would have to be my family because without all of them I probably would not have accomplished the things I have up to this point.
What is your favorite place to eat on campus?
I would have to say cafe' 1201 because it’s a buffet and I can just sit down and eat at my own pace.
