Becker Rallies Old Dominion Past Towson, 2-1
Sept. 16, 2001
Towson, MD- Senior forward Emily Becker (Va. Beach, VA) tallied two second half goals to lead Old Dominion past future CAA foe Towson this afternoon, 2-1. The Lady Monarchs are now 3-2 overall while Towson slips to 1-3-1.
The Tigers scored the games first goal just minutes into the contest, as freshman Shannon Jackson headed in a corner kick past Lady Monarch goalie Tonya Dedmond (North Potomac, MD).
Towson carried the one goal lead into the half, but just moments after intermission Becker scored her first goal of the season when her 12 yard blast deflected off a defender into the Tiger goal. Her final score of the game occurred with just over two minutes left in regulation, when she took a pass from freshman midfielder Maura Linz (Prospect, KY) and beat Tiger goalie Yasmin Alter to the far right corner of the goal for the winning score.
Towson and Old Dominion had originally been part of a four-team Towson Invitational Tournament field that also included Loyola College and Louisiana State. Due to events of the past week, however, only Towson and Old Dominion were able to participate.
The Lady Monarchs will return to action this Wednesday, when they host CAA foe Virginia Commonwealth at 7 p.m.
