Cahana Qualifies For NCAA Tournament

NORFOLK, VA -- Old Dominion sophomore Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Balik, Israel) was one of 64 Division I women's tennis singles players to advance to the NCAA Tournament it was announced today. Fellow classmate Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) was selected as one of five alternates.
Cahana, currently ranked 11th the ITA, compiled an 18-2 singles record during the 2002 dual meet season. During the fall, she won the Cissie Leary Invitational held at the University of Pennsylvania and advanced to the finals of the Riviera Women's All-American Championships. Additionally, Cahana reached the quarterfinals of the Omni Hotels Eastern Region and Indoor Championships. Cahana is a two-time CAA player of the Year and last season was named the CAA Rookie of the Year and ITA Player to Watch. Cahana will be making her second appearance in the NCAA Tournament having advanced to the second round of play in 2001.
Van Rooyen will serve as the fifth alternate to in this year's NCAA individual singles championship field. Ranked 62nd in the latest ITA poll, she captured a 13-3 overall singles record and advanced to the round of 16 in both the Omni Hotels Eastern Regional Championships and the Cissie Leary Invitational during the fall campaign.
Play begins on Monday, May 20th and continues through Saturday, May 25th culminating in the championship game to be played at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.
