NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 19/20 ODU Wrestling team (15-3/5-1) will host Rider University (6-9/3-2) in CAA action for the first time ever under the roof of the Ted Constant Convocation Center on Sunday. Immediately following the women's basketball game against William & Mary, ODU will take the mat trying to win their 10th CAA dual in their last 11 matchups with conference opponents, dating back to last year. ODU also boasts a four-match unbeaten streak against the Broncs. Start time for the dual is set for 5:00 pm.
This week, ODU earned their first ever Top 20 national ranking by the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA poll. They are also ranked 19th by W.I.N. Magazine currently.
ODU is led by redshirt sophomore Kaylen Baxter, the nationwide leader in wins with 36. Baxter will have to face the No. 17 grappler at 149 in the nation. He is one of three Monarchs ranked by all four national polls. The others are James Nicholson (125) and Chris Brown (165).
Rider is led by junior Doug Umbehauer at 184 lbs, one of three nationally ranked grapplers. The others are Don Fisch (149) and T.J. Morrison (197). The Broncs are coming off a CAA dual victory against Drexel and have won five straight duals after starting the season 1-9.
Admission to the event will be free to students with an ID and to patrons of the women's basketball game with a ticket stub. For adults, the dual is $6 and for children, seniors, faculty/staff and military personnel the price is $4.
