Field Hockey And Women's Soccer Open On The Road

Old Dominion University's field hockey and women's soccer teams open the 2000 fall regular season on the road this weekend. The Lady Monarch soccer team will be competing in the Clemson Tournament, while the Lady Monarch field hockey squad travels to State College, Pa.

Women's soccer will open the Clemson Tournament on Aug. 25 against Georgia State at 4:30 p.m., then play sixth ranked Clemson on Aug. 27 at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Monarchs finished last season with a 10-9 record and advanced to the CAA semifinals. All-CAA defender Andi Rowe (Fairfax, Va.) along with Jen Henley (Chalfont, Pa.) and Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ.) head the list of returnees.

The Lady Monarch field hockey squad, ranked third in pre-season by HOCKEYPOINT magazine travels to #6 Penn State for an 11 a.m. match on Aug. 26. Old Dominion will then play New Hampshire in State College, Pa. on Aug. 27 at 2:30 p.m.

Leading the way for the Lady Monarchs will be All-Americans Marina DiGiacomo (Mendoza, Argentina), and Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, Pa.). DiGiacomo scored 40 goals last year and helped lead the Lady Monarchs to a 17-7 record, their fifth straight CAA title and advanced to the NCAA regional finals. Yoder, a third team All-American in 1999 helped anchor the Lady Monarchs defense.
