No. 18/19 Wrestling Monarchs Close Out Regular Season at Virginia Tech
Feb. 22, 2008
NORFOLK, Va. -- The #18/19 Monarchs travel to Blacksburg for their final dual of the season in what has already proven to be a historical season. ODU has already tallied the second most wins in program history and will look to run the total to 17 for the season against the 7-8 Hokies of Virginia Tech. Start time is set for 2:00 pm. The dual will close out the regular season for the Monarchs as they prepare for the CAA Tournament held at Hofstra University on March 7-8.
The Monarchs added another significant milestone to the 2007-08 season by earning the programs first ever Top 20 ranking. W.I.N. Magazine currently lists ODU as the 18th best team in the nation while the Monarchs are coming in at 19th in the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA poll.
ODU earned its first national ranking since the 1990-91 season earlier this year as W.I.N. Magazine ranked the Monarchs 22nd in the nation. Since then, ODU has been a staple in the top 25 and has recently earned the programs best ever national ranking, at 18th in the nation by W.I.N.
Also, for the first time in head coach Steve Martin's tenure, all ten starters are ranked in the CAA rankings. The final dual of the season give ODU one final opportunity to improve seeding in the post-season tournaments.
The dual is the third in as many years against Virginia Tech and ODU has won the previous two, including the first ever win at the Ted Constant Convocation Center a year ago. The all-time series is in favor of the Monarchs, 18-13.
