March 23, 2012
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Watch ESPN3 tonight at 10 p.m. as Old Dominion senior swimmer Arni Arnason (Mosfellsbaer, Iceland) competes in the consolation finals of the NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in the 100 breaststroke.
Arnason posted an 11th place time in Friday's preliminaries to advance to tonight's consolation final. His time of 53.07 was .05 seconds off his own school and conference record set at the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships in late February, which qualified him for the NCAA Championships.
A member of the 2008 Icelandic Olympic Team, Arnason was a five-time CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week in 2012 and earned his second straight CAA Championship "Most Outstanding Swimmer" honor after taking home titles in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, and as a member of the 400 medley relay squad.
Arnason last competed at the NCAA Championships as a freshman in 2009 where he placed 25th in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries (53.89), took 42nd in the 50 freestyle preliminaries (19.92), and came in 21st in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries (1:56.54).
Co-hosted by the Seattle Sports Commission and Seattle University at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships is being in Federal Way, Washington.
