NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion women's soccer team shutout East Carolina 3-0 in its first preseason game of the season on Saturday.

Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) was the first of the three Lady Monarch freshmen to score a goal in the game in the 24th minute. Beeman picked up a rebound off a blocked cross from fellow freshman Kim Snyder (Va. Beach, VA) and shot it right over the outstretched arm of Pirate's goalie Mindy Kmiotek.

Heather Vaughan (Va. Beach, VA) netted her own goal just six minutes later. Sophomore Maura Linz (Prospect, KY) sent a corner kick across the goalie box and Vaughan out-jumped everyone to put in the easy header. Meredith Worsley (Durham, NC) scored the final goal as the ECU defense overplayed a long cross which she was able to control and net.

Sophomore Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) and junior transfer Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, VA) combined to make 10 saves and keep East Carolina off the scoreboard. The Pirates Amanda Duffy broke open with several opportunities to score but couldn't find the back off the net.

Old Dominion will play host to N.C. State next Saturday at 7 p.m. with its last exhibition match of the season. The regular season gets underway on August 31 at home against UNC-Greensboro at 7 p.m.
