Monarchs Bounced From Singles Play At ITA Regionals

Charlottesville, Va. - The ODU men's tennis team bowed out of the singles competition at the ITA/Wilson Mideast Regional Championships on Friday after posting a collective 1-3 mark on the day. However, the Monarchs have three doubles team still battling in the doubles open qualifying bracket.
In the round of 64, ODU's Rodrigo Souza was defeated by Clemson's Rok Bizjak, 6-3, 7-6 (3), while Alex Seleznev fell to Damon Gooch of Elon, 6-1, 6-0. Eidy Igarashi was the only Monarch to win his match in the round of 64 with a straight set victory (6-3, 6-4) over Presbyterian's Matt Martin. However, Igarashi could not get past Cory Parr of Wake Forest who on the match 6-3, 6-3.
The ITA/Wilson Mideast Regional Championships will continue tomorrow and the Monarchs will have three doubles teams competing in the round of 16 with a chance to advance to the quarterfinals of the open qualifying bracket.
