From The Desk of Bobby Wilder: EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME
Nov. 10, 2009
* Being "Loud and Proud" resulted in six penalties for the Eagles last Saturday afternoon and 41 total this season.
What an incredible ride you took the Old Dominion Football team on in our first home season!!
Our team is grateful for the tremendous support we received during our seven home games. We ended the home season 5th in the nation in attendance out of 125 teams playing F.C.S. Football with an average of 19,782 "Loud and Proud" 12TH MONARCHS!! You should all be as proud of yourselves as we are of you!! Our only disappointment is that we finished 6-1 at home this year. Our 31-28 loss to Monmouth in week four ruined an undefeated home season. Our six wins were: 36-21 over Chowan, 49-17 over Virginia Union,34-16 over Presbyterian, 28-17 over Campbell, 31-10 over Georgetown, and 42-28 over North Carolina Central. We look forward to sharing seven more home games with you next year.
This week is a bye week for your Monarchs. The players are spending more time on academics while the coaching staff is on the road recruiting future Monarchs. We will practice Thursday and Friday this week, before enjoying a much needed day off on Saturday. For the Coaching staff, this will be our first off day since August 1st. We will be back at work Sunday as we prepare for our last game of 2009 at VMI.
With our 8th win on Saturday, your Monarchs are in the record books as the most successful start up program ever. We are proud of this accomplishment. As I told our team and Coaches in the locker room following Saturday's historic win, they will know for the rest of their lives they were part of something that is special. You should feel that way as well. History would not have been made without "Monarch Nation".
We hope to see you all in Lexington, Virginia on the 21st when we play the Keydets at 1:30 p.m.. If not, we look forward to seeing you on September 4th, 2010 when we open our season at home against Jacksonville.
Aim High in everything you do,
