Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion University Athletic Director Jim Jarrett and head football coach Bobby Wilder today announced three home dates on the 2009 Monarch football schedule.

"We are putting together a schedule for our young football program that we believe will be competitive and prepare them for conference play," says Jarrett. "We anticipate having a full schedule in the next few months and having discussions with many outstanding programs."

The Monarchs, who will begin playing football after a 78-year absence on campus, will host Saturday contests against fellow Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) members Monmouth of West Long Branch, New Jersey and the Northeast Conference on Sept. 26, Presbyterian of Clinton, South Carolina and the Big South Conference on Oct. 10 and Patriot League member Georgetown University on Oct. 31. The Monarchs, members of the Colonial Athletic Association, will be eligible to compete for a league title in the 2011 season.

"Our goal in scheduling is to primarily play schools in the Football Championship Subdivision, so that we'll be playoff eligible in 2009." said Wilder. "We anticipate announcing additional home dates for our first season in the near future, with the goal of playing six home games per year."

The Monarchs, who last fielded a football team in 1940, will open the season at home on Sept. 5 against an opponent that has yet to be determined. All home games will be played at Foreman Field, an 18,000 seat stadium built in 1935 on the ODU campus. The stadium is currently undergoing renovations, including the construction of a Game Day facility in the south end zone which houses 24 suites and 400 club (loge) seats, and is attached to a 720-space parking garage.

The ODU ticket office begins accepting football season ticket applications on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Constant Center box office, by calling 683-4444 or ordering online at Season tickets are priced at $120, $100 for ODU faculty and staff, and $290 for family plans consisting of two adult and two children's tickets. Seat and locations are based on the current priority point system for Big Blue Club members and date of purchase for non-Big Blue Club members.
