NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior midfielder Kelly Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and rookie goalkeeper Sarah Geary (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) earned Second Team All-South Region honors, voted by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for their play in the 2009 season. Kimener was named a All-American and Geary earned All-Rookie Team honors earlier this month.

Kimener and Geary were integral pieces to the 2009 women's lacrosse team which posted one of the best seasons in school history. The Lady Monarchs finished with an 11-5 season and were nationally ranked as high as 17th. The pair become the first All-Region honorees since Caroline Jacobs in 2007 and just the third and fourth in the last ten years.

Kimener was named the CAA Player of the Year for her performance in 2009, scoring a team-high 59 points on 44 goals and 15 assists. She also led the team in draw controls with 32 and was among the team leaders in caused turnovers (23) and ground balls (25). She concludes her career as a Lady Monarch ranked fourth all-time in career points (166), goals (125) and assists (41) after posting career-bests in each category.

Geary played in all but 30 minutes in the cage for Old Dominion as a rookie, posting a 10.06 goals against average and an impressive .502 save percentage on 415 shots faced. She led the team in ground balls with 51, and ranked eighth in the nation. She ranked among the nation's top ten in save percentage, saves per game and goals against average.
