Madison Ends Lady Monarchs CAA Unbeaten Streak 68-75

HARRISONBURG, VA - The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs fell to 18-8 (16-1 in the CAA) after dropping tonight's game to James Madison 68-75 in Harrisonburg. The Dukes improve to 22-5, 14-4 in conference play.

JMU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead to start off the first half before ODU brought it to 15 all at the 10 minute mark. The Lady Monarchs fell behind again allowing the Dukes to take a six point lead before fighting back and tying the score yet again, this time at 28 with three minutes before the half. Madison landed a few fast break layups and a free throw to leave the score 35-30 heading into half-time.

Old Dominion came out firing as senior Lawona Davis hit back-to-back jumpers to narrow the score 36-34. Four free throws and a few jumpers later the Dukes were back out front with a seven point lead with 15:40 remaining.

Two jumpers and a three point shot by TJ Jordan tied the score at 45-all. From there the game stayed close with the score never reaching more than a 3 point margin for either team.

With 54 seconds remaining, Davis lands a two-pointer to bring the Lady Monarchs within three points of the Dukes, 68-65. Madison's Tamera Young charged down the court for a quick two, before Shantel Wilson answered back with a three pointer to bring the Lady Monarchs within two at 70-68. The Dukes knocked down five consecutive free throws as Old Dominion failed to connect in the final seconds, giving Madison the win 75-68.

Three Lady Monarchs saw double figures in scoring, including senior Lawona Davis with 15 points, Sherida Triggs with 14 and Paula Muxiri with 10. Shantel Wilson and TJ Jordan both had five rebounds and ODU shot 43 percent from both the floor and the line.

JMU had four players reach double digits, led by Tamera Young with 25 points. Young also earned her 11th double double of the season as she brought down 12 rebounds against the Lady Monarchs. The Dukes shot an impressive 70 percent from the free throw line, and 67 percent in three pointers.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action as they close out the regular season in Atlanta, when they take on the Georgia State Lady Panthers, Saturday, March 4, at 6:00 pm.
