SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Lady Monarch senior Jaclyn Finney (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) was named a 2009 ICSA Co-Ed Crew All-American immediately following the National Championship last night. Finney becomes the first ODU sailor to earn All-American honors since the 2004-05 season. She is joined by sophomore skipper Stephanie Roble, who earned Honorable Mention Skipper honors for the women's team.
Finney was an integral member of both the women's and co-ed teams this year, sailing in over 15 events for the ODU sailing team. She helped lead the Lady Monarchs to a win of the women's division at the St. Francis Intersectional in California, as well as a sixth place effort overall. Finney crewed for Roble at the MAISA Women's Championship, leading ODU to its ninth trip to the ICSA Women's National Championship in ten years.
She also sailed to top five finishes at the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional and the MAISA Women's Fall Dinghy, while also sailing at the Co-ed National Championship earlier this week.
Finney's skipper for most of the season, Stephanie Roble (East Troy, Wisc./Catholic Central-Burlington), was named Honorable Mention All-American for the women's team. Roble, the MVP of the women's team this season, qualified for her second straight trip to the ICSA Singlehanded National Championship and also led ODU to the ICSA Women's Dinghy National Championship last week. She finished seventh overall at singlehandeds and led ODU to a fourth place effort in the spring championship.
Both Roble and Finney were also major players in the ODU team racing events this season.
The two Lady Monarch sailors became the first All-Americans since 2004-05, when Anna Tunnicliffe and Emily Bartlett were named. It was the last in a string of 21 straight years in which ODU had at least one All-American.
