Monarchs Defeat Harvard 4-3 In Men's Tennis

Norfolk, Va. – The Old Dominion University men’s tennis team improved to 15-9 on the year with a 4-3 win over visiting Harvard Saturday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.

 

The Monarchs won the doubles point with a pair of 8-4 victories at No. 1 and No. 2.  Matt Fawcett and Tobias Fanselow defeated Harvard’s Michael Hayes and Alistair Felton at No. 1, while at No. 2 Ben Marks and Aleksandr Seleznev upended Chris Clayton and Michael Kalfayan.

 

In singles play the teams split the matches evenly at three apiece with the Monarchs winning at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3.  Seleznev earned a straight set win over Clayton, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 and Fanselow defeated Felton 6-0, 2-6, 7-6(5) at No. 2.  Matt Fawcett improved to 20-2 this spring with his 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hayes at No. 3.
