Women's Tennis Earns First Dual Meet Win Of The Season

NORFOLK, VA -- The 2003 dual meet season got underway last night for the Old Dominion University women's tennis team as they posted a 5-2 win over Hampton Roads rival Norfolk State late last night.
The Lady Monarchs, who are now 1-0 on the young season, garnered victories at all four singles slots played. Fifth ranked Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel), newcomer Kerstin Endlich, and rookie Coralie Herrmann (Porrentruy, Switzerland) each won in straight sets. Cahana posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Barbora Steiskalova at first singles. Endlich and Herrmann were each playing in their first collegiate dual meet. Endlich won 6-4, 6-0 at second singles over Klora Condlova and Herrmann used a 6-0, 6-1 decision at fourth singles against Shenida Watkins. At third singles senior Julia Sotiriu (Wendelstein, Germany) handed Martina Vondrova a 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 loss.
The Lady Monarchs collected the doubles point with wins from both doubles teams. Cahana and Sotiriu used an 8-1 win over Norfolk State's Watkins and Vondrova while Herrmann and Endlich recorded an 8-2 victory over Steiskalova and Watkins.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Friday night when they travel to Charlottesville, VA to face #54 Virginia.
