Lady Monarchs Continue Road Trip This Weekend
Oct. 11, 2002
The Old Dominion women's soccer team will continue their five game road trip this weekend as they travel for Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) contests against Virginia Commonwealth on Friday night and UNC-Wilmington on Sunday. ODU (2-7-1/0-1-1) will look to break a two-game losing streak and to capture their first conference victory.
Old Dominion has played two conference games so far this season and dropped a 4-0 game at William and Mary after battling James Madison to scoreless overtime tie in Norfolk. Freshman Heather Vaughan (Va. Beach, VA) and sophomore Ashley Kramer (Jefferson Hills, PA) lead the offensive attack with four goals each. Vaughan also leads the team in points with nine. Maura Linz (Prospect, KY) is third in the CAA with 0.50 assists a game while Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, VA) has stopped a CAA second-best 5.25 shots per game.
Virginia Commonwealth got off to a quick start in 2002 and have not looked back. They lead the CAA with a 10-1-1 overall record, including going 3-0-1 in conference play. Their lone defeat came against Maryland on the road. They feature one of the best goalies in the nation in Chrissy Lloyd. Lloyd has allowed only one goal in her previous six games, with five shutouts in that span. Jen Parsons leads the CAA with 11 goals in 12 games for VCU. ODU holds a 4-1-2 advantage over VCU in head to head action. However, the Rams knocked ODU out of the CAA tournament last season with a 3-2 overtime win.
UNC-Wilmington also started well this season but have fallen in conference play. They have lost three of their four CAA games and now stand at 8-4-0. Caroline Renkin has six goals and three assists as she heads the offense for the Seahawks. The Lady Monarchs are 7-3 lifetime against UNCW and have won the last two matchups. Eight of the ten games between the two schools have been decided by two goals or less.
