NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion men's soccer team will host a first round match against NC State in this year's Men's NCAA College Cup. The time and day has not yet been determined, but the game will be either on Friday, November 21, or Saturday, November 22. The meeting with the Wolfpack will be the first between the two teams.
"We're excited to get a home game," ODU Head Coach Alan Dawson said. "I think it's vital for us right now. Playing against NC State, a ACC school, I think will create a lot of interest in our soccer community and will draw a big crowd."
The Monarchs are hosting a first round game in the tournament for the second straight year and come into the tournament with a 14-3-1 record, 6-2-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Monarchs defeated three nationally ranked teams this season, beating both #19 Cal-Berkeley and #5 Stanford 1-0 and defeating #5 Wake Forest 2-0 in Norfolk. ODU was defeated in the Semifinals of the CAA tournament Friday night, losing to George Mason 1-0. The Wolfpack are 9-8-2 overall and were defeated by #2 Maryland in the Semifinals of the ACC tournament, 2-1.
If ODU defeats NC State, they will travel to #2 seed Maryland Wednesday, November 26, at College Park, MD. ODU has a 4-7-1 record against the Terrapins all-time. The full bracket can be found at www.ncaasports.com.
