NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University wrestling team heads north for three duals this weekend as they take on No. 16 Rutgers on Friday evening and Princeton and Rider on Saturday.

The Monarchs (4-1) return to action for the first time since upsetting No. 18 Iowa State, 21-16, on Nov. 20 at the Ted Constant Center when Scott Festejo, Justin LaValle, John Nicholson, Te Edwards and Joe Budi all registered wins for ODU.

After going 8-1 in November and defeating a pair of top-10 opponents in the month, Edwards was named the CAA Wrestler of the Month. Meanwhile, Rookie of the Month honors went to freshman Pete Baldwin who went 9-2 and finished third at the N.C. State Open while also making it to the finals of the UNC Pembroke Classic at 149 pounds.

ODU will face No. 16 Rutgers (2-1) in Piscataway, N.J. at the RAC on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have not met since 1987. The Scarlet Knights feature four nationally ranked wrestlers in No. 16 Billy Ashnault (141), No. 4 Mario Mason (149), No. 6 Scott Winston (165) and No. 16 Gregory Zannetti (174). Rutgers went 2-1 at the Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. on Nov. 26 as they defeated North Carolina, 33-9, and Purdue, 28-15, before narrowly falling to Central Michigan, 16-15.

On Saturday, the Monarchs begin the afternoon at 1 p.m. with a dual at Princeton (0-2) in Dillon Gym at 3 p.m. The Tigers dropped their opening duals of the season to Rider, 29-9, and to Wisconsin, 29-10, on Nov. 18. Princeton finished four at the Keystone Open on Nov. 20 as they placed six wrestlers.

Following their dual at Princeton, ODU will wrap-up the weekend by opening CAA dual action at Rider (2-1) at 7 p.m. at Alumni Gym in Lawrenceville, N.J. The Broncs opened the season with a thrilling 16-15 win at Army and also defeated Princeton, 29-10, before falling to Wisconsin at home, 28-8 on Nov. 18. Rider finished third at the Keystone Open on Nov. 20 and placed four.
