Obziler ('96) Battles Venus Williams In French Open Loss

PARIS, FRANCE-- Former ODU Lady Monarch tennis standout Tzipi Obziler (tel Aviv, Israel) lost her French Open match to eighth seeded Venus Williams, 6-3,4-6,6-2 Monday.

Obziler is currently 370-229 for her career, and 14-12 thus far this year with a world ranking of 93. In August of 2006, Obziler captured the 2006 Legg Mason Classic in Washington, DC.

As a student athlete at ODU, Obziler compiled a 28-3 record in 1995-96. She won the ITA National Clay Court Championship in October of 1995 and on Dec. 12th of 1996 she became ODU's first tennis player to be ranked number one in the nation.

Obziler is a member of Israel's Federation Cup team.
