Final Field Hockey Game At Foreman Field

NORFOLK, Va. -- Countless memories have come from Foreman Field for the Old Dominion field hockey teams over the years and on Saturday, October 27th the Lady Monarchs will take the stadium's turf for their final regular season home game against top-ranked North Carolina before moving to the state-of-the-art Powhatan Sports Complex for the 2008 season. The game will also be the annual scholarship game with the five-dollar admission (free for ODU students w/ ID) to support the Intercollegiate Foundation for field hockey scholarships.

Since moving from the grass and weed confines of Larchmont to the artificial turf at Foreman Field in 1981, the Lady Monarchs have recorded at 267-33-4 record over the course of 26 years resulting in an 88.5 win percentage. During the Lady Monarchs' streak of 66 consecutive wins spanning the 1990, 1991, and 1992 seasons, 28 of the victories came at Foreman Field. Beth Anders, the winningest Division I field hockey coach in history, has totaled a 239-26-3 record at home (1981-84, 1987-2002, 2004-present) for an incredible 89.7 win percentage.

For the field hockey team, Foreman Field has been home to nine national championship squads, 13 CAA championship teams, 44 All-Americans, 46 Academic All-Americans, 12 Olympians, six Honda Award winners, and 19 members of the ODU Hall of Fame. The site has also hosted the NCAA Field Hockey Final Four in 1985, 1986, and 2000.

The game will also mark senior day with three Lady Monarchs - Sami McLenegan (Middletown, Pa.), Shannon Mobley (Va. Beach, Va.), and Jo Ann van Aswegen (Bloemfontein, South Africa) honored prior to game-time.
