Women's Basketball Wins 29th Consecutive Home Game Downing Saint Joseph's, 74-51
Dec. 12, 2008
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team won its 29th consecutive home game on Friday night to tie the University of Hartford for the nation's longest active win streak with a 74-51 victory over Saint Joseph's. Lady Monarch legend Anne Donovan, who guided Team USA to gold at the Beijing Olympics this summer, was honored prior to tip.
Sophomores Jasmine Parker (Norfolk, Va.) and Shadasia Green (Patterson, N.J.) each collected career highs. Parker poured in 19 points, while Green posted her first career double-double with a career-high 14 points and a career-tying 11 rebounds.
Old Dominion (5-2) led wire-to-wire for the second straight game limiting just one Hawk athlete, Atlantic-10 Co-Player of the Week Mariame Djouara, to double figures with 12 points.
Parker scored 13 of her career-high 19 in the first half as the Lady Monarchs led 36-19 at the half. Parker ended the half going 3-of-5 from downtown and ended the game going 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Old Dominion, which outrebounded Saint Joseph's (4-5) 51-35, was led on the boards by Green's career-tying 11 boards. Green captured seven offensive rebounds that helped the Lady Monarchs to 18 second chance points.
The Lady Monarchs look to extend its home win streak next week when they host defending national champion #7/10 Tennessee. The Old Dominion women's basketball team will be looking for its first win over the Lady Vols since 1997. The two teams meet on Thursday, December 18th with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The game will air on both Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic (Ch. 35 - Hampton Roads) and Comcast Plus. Paul Crane will handle play-by-play duties with Joe Ciampi on color.
