Seedings and Brackets Released for NCAA Wrestling Tournament

AUBURN HILLS, MI -- Old Dominion's Christian Staylor will kick off the 2007 NCAA Tournament Thursday morning as a part of the first match. He will wrestle Mark Anderson (West Virginia) in the first bout of the tournament at 11:00 am. The other two Monarchs, David Mendoza and Nick Pullano, earned first round byes and will face ranked opponents in their first bouts later in the day.
Should Staylor defeat Anderson, he will advance to face (8) Tyler McCormick (Missouri). The Monarch wrestled the sixth ranked (InterMat)Mizzou Tiger in ODU's final dual of the season and fell in a 1-2 decision. This is the senior's third NCAA Tournament and last opportunity to stand on the podium at the national level.
In the 165-lb. bracket, Nick Pullano is slated to wrestle (9) Matt Pell (Missouri) in the second round of competition. The 95th bout of the tournament will pit Pullano against the 8th ranked Tiger. Pell will be appearing in his third NCAA Tournament as a wild card entrant for Missouri. The senior did not wrestle against Pullano in the ODU dual. Should Pullano defeat Pell, he will be slated against the Tyler Safratowich (Minnesota)/(8) Steve Anceravage (Cornell) winner.
David Mendoza, at 197 lbs., will also be tested very early. His first bout of the tournament, and the 151st of the tournament, will be against (7) Craig Brester of Nebraska-Lincoln. Brester is the seventh ranked 197-pounder in the nation and will be making his first tournament appearance along with Mendoza. If Mendoza is able to topple yet another nationally ranked opponent he will face off against the Jason Trulson (Arizona State)/(10) Wynn Michalak (Central Michigan) winner.
Wrestling begins at 11:00 am Thursday morning with first round action. Wrestling in the first round of consolation and second round in the championship bracket will be completed Thursday. Friday will begin with the championship bracket quarterfinals and the second and third round of consolation wrestling. Saturday morning will finish out the consolation bracket with the finals scheduled for 8:00 pm.
