Lady Monarchs Take Three-Game Winning Streak on the Road This Weekend

NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion women's soccer team, on their first three-game winning streak since the 2000 season, will take on Virginia Tech and Radford this weekend, in non-conference action. The Lady Monarchs have won three straight in the Colonial Athletic Association and currently sit on top of the standings with a 3-1-1 record. ODU is 6-4-2 overall.
ODU travels to Blacksburg Friday night, to take on Virginia Tech at 7:00. Virginia Tech is currently 7-5-0 and 3-3-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hokies are coming off a 1-0 loss at Florida State last Sunday in Tallahassee, FL). Freshman forward Ashley Stinson leads the Hokies with 26 points (11 goals, four assists). The Lady Monarchs have a 2-8 all-time record against Virginia Tech, dropping the last four. Last season, Virginia Tech defeated ODU 2-0 in Norfolk.
The Lady Monarchs take on Radford Sunday afternoon at 1:00 in Radford, VA. ODU is unbeaten all-time against the Highlanders, with a 5-0-1 record. Last season, the Lady Monarchs battled Radford to a 1-1 tie at the ODU Soccer Stadium. Radford is 8-4-0 and 3-1-0 in the Big South Conference. The Highlanders are coming off a 1-0 loss to Birmingham at home last Sunday for their first conference loss of the season. Radford is led by Senior Forward Nikki Porter (22 points, off nine goals and four assists) and Junior Forward/Midfielder Jonita Hooker (six goals, four assists, 16 points).
ODU Junior Forward Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA), named the CAA Player of the Week this week, leads a potent Lady Monarch offense, with 19 points (8 goals, three assists). ODU has scored 23 goals this season so far, nine more than their season total of 14 from the 2003 season.
The Lady Monarchs return to conference play next weekend, hosting Drexel Friday, October 22, and Hofstra on October 24.
