March 24, 2002
Norfolk, VA-The sixteenth-ranked Old Dominion women's lacrosse squad cruised to a 17-6 non-conference victory over visiting Lafayette this afternoon at Foreman Field. The Lady Monarchs improve to 7-3 overall and have won four of their last five.
Balanced scoring was the theme of the day for ODU, which would finish with eight different players in the scoring column. The Lady Monarchs scored the first six goals of the game--including three in the 27th minute--and never looked back.
Danielle Hensil (Havertown, PA) scored five goals with two assists and senior Jennifer Heister (Fayetteville, NY) found the back of the net four times. Janine Rodriguez (Davidsonville, MD) and Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA) assisted on four goals each.
The Lady Monarch defense also turned in a strong performance as seniors Jennifer Shaw (Alexandria, VA) and Brooke Thomas (Whiteford, MD) collected four ground balls each while shutting down the Lafayette offense.
Old Dominion held the advantage in shots (31-10) and ground balls (18-15). The Lady Monarchs benefitted from more draw controls as well, with junior Marlaine Smith (Gaithersburg, MD) registering a game-high four draws.
