Monarchs Sweep Spiders

RICHMOND, VA - The University of Richmond men's tennis team was swept 7-0 by #65 Old Dominion at the UR Tennis Complex as the Monarchs improved to improve to 11-4 on the year having won five of their last six matches.
Old Dominion won the doubles point after winning all three matches and Richmond was unable to take any singles victories. The Monarchs won five of the six matches in straight sets as Richmond's Dan Scrafford was the only Spider to win a singles set at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) and senior Patrik Binkowski (Orby, Sweden) put together a 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while junior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) and freshman Adriano Mello (Londrina, Brazil) collected the doubles point for ODU with a 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. The team of senior Salman Mohammed (Calcutta, India) and junior Niklas Oskarsson (Halmsted, Sweden) helped sweep up the doubles competition with a 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Csanadi, playing at No. 1 singles, posted a 6-4, 7-5 win while teammate van der Merwe used a 6-3, 6-4 verdict for the win at No. 2 singles. Junior Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania) won at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 7-5, while Binkowski used three sets for his win at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. Mohammed and Oskarsson rounded out the sweep with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles respectively.
The Monarchs will return to action on Sunday when they travel to CAA rival, #34 William and Mary, up in Williamsburg, VA.
