Norfolk, VA-William & Mary sophomore Tara Flint nailed the game-winner with fifteen seconds remaining in overtime as the Tribe posted a 4-3 win over host Old Dominion this evening.

The Tribe came out gunning early, as Janet Sury connected on a Franny Swajkoski corner kick for a 1-0 lead at 9:25. Twenty minutes later Avery Willis put the Tribe up 2-0 when she took advantage of an Old Dominion defensive miscue. ODU goalie Alison Kinsler came out of the box to intercept a loose ball but missed, giving Willis a wide open shot at the net. Old Dominion finally got back on track with ten minutes left in the half when defender Andi Rowe (Fairfax, VA) put in her first goal of the evening with help from teammate Jen Henley (Chalfont, PA).

The Lady Monarchs took command early in the second half, when Henley scored the equalizer on a give-and-go from Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ). Rowe teamed up with Henley again for her second goal of the night, putting in a header for a 3-2 Old Dominion lead at the 58:34.

William & Mary tallied the game-tying score with ten minutes remaining. As a Old Dominion defender cleared a corner kick the Tribe's Joanne Elston collected the ball, sending a high-floating, hail-mary shot that went in behind Lady Monarch goalie Tonya Dedmond (North Potomac, MD).

The two teams went into the first extra-session, where Old Dominion got two early chances to score. McGovern had a shot go high, and Henley had an apparent direct kick goal called back due to an offside penalty. The Tribe took advantage, and reeled off several corner kicks in the final moments of the session. Flint's game-winner came when she scooped up a cleared ball at the top of the box and sent in a low shot through traffic at 104:45.

Old Dominion held a 19-15 edge in shots while the Tribe held the advantage in corners, 7-4. The Lady Monarchs were penalized 16 times to the Tribe's seven.

W&M goalie Courtney Owen recorded nine saves, while her ODU counterparts combined for eight.

Old Dominion, 5-9-2/ 1-3-1 CAA, must now wait for the CAA tournament to play again. The tournament will be held November 8-11 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.
