NORFOLK, VA -- Senior Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, PA) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Field Hockey Player of the Week, it was announced today by the conference. The award marks Yoder's second weekly honor of the 2001 season.
Yoder tallied four goals and six assists in the Lady Monarchs' 2-1 week. In Saturday's 4-3 win over CAA rival James Madison, she assisted on the game-winning goal that clinched the regular season conference title. She also assisted on Old Dominion's only goal in a 2-1 loss to #5 North Carolina. On Sunday, she had a dominating performance against American in an 11-0 victory. She scored four goals and handed out three assists, good for a 2001 CAA single-game high of 11 points. Yoder now leads the Monarchs and the CAA with 28 points.
The senior back won her first Player of the Week honor following play the week of September 3rd. Yoder was a key to three Lady Monarch victories that week, including two over ranked foes. She helped the squad record its first shutout of season with 1-0 overtime win over then #9 Penn State and aided the defense in allowing just one shot on net in the 4-1 win over Boston University. Against then #5 Wake Forest, Yoder converted a penalty stroke, which gave Old Dominion a lead over the Demon Deacons that they would never relinquish.
The Lady Monarchs (13-4, 3-0 CAA) close out the 2001 regular season this weekend with match-ups against North Carolina and Northeastern on Foreman Field. Old Dominion will look to avenge a 1-2 setback to the Tarheels earlier this month on Saturday, October 27th at 1:00 p.m., while the Lady Monarch seniors will be honored prior to beginning of Sunday, October 28th's game against Northeastern at 2:00 p.m.
