Lady Monarchs Defeat Tribe, 2-1 In Overtime

WILLIAMSBURG, VA--Junior Laura Beeman connected on a penalty kick in the seventh minute of the first overtime to give the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion (6-4-2/3-1-1 CAA) a 2-1 victory over William and Mary. It was the Lady Monarchs first ever win over the Tribe in 12 matches. W&M is 5-4-4(2-1-2 in the CAA.
After a scoreless first half, W&M took a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute. Junior Taline Tahmassian hit the net on an assist from Katie Hogwood. With about 15 minutes remaining, ODU tied the match as Lisa McKenzie (Inverness, Scotland) sent a through ball to Heather Vaughan (Va. Beach, Va.-Princess Anne HS) into the right corner of the 18-foot box, and after a dribble, she fired home a shot into the lower left corner.
With a little more than four minutes left in the first extra period, Beeman took a pass outside the center of the box and streaked towards the goal, but was fouled just inside the box, setting up the game winning goal.
ODU returns to action on Oct. 15 when they travel to Blacksburg to take On Virginia Tech.
