Lady Monarch Tennis Shuts Down UNC-Wilmington, 7-0

NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team upped its record to 10-7 on the season and 2-1 in CAA action by defeating the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks this afternoon 7-0. The Lady Monarchs captured all six singles matches including 6-0, 6-0 performances by sophomore Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) and senior Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia).

Ninth ranked Cahana shutout the Seahawk's Jacky Gibbens at first singles, while Radeljevic blanked her opponent, Joy Solc, at third singles. Fourty-fifth ranked sophomore Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mandy Bullard at second singles, while senior Mily Kannarkat (Va Beach, VA) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kimberly Barnnett. Rounding out the singles competition, junior Julia Sotiriu (Wendelstein, Germany) defeated Hunter McRae at fifth singles (6-3, 6-3) and senior Patricia Araujo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) handed Sallie Kiser a 6-4, 6-1 defeat.

All three Old Dominion doubles teams earned wins as well. Fourty-fourth ranked Cahana/Radeljevic defeated UNC-Wilmington's duo of Bullard/Kathleen Bowles at first doubles 8-2. Kannarkat/Sotiriu teamed for an 8-5 victory at second singles over Gibbens/Barnett. Van Rooyen/Araujo finished the afternoon with an 8-3 third doubles win against McRae/Kiser.

The Lady Monarchs will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Richmond, VA to take on Virginia Commonwealth.
