No. 18 Harel Srugo Advances At ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Sophomore Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel)and senior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) took the courts on Thursday at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tournament held on the campus of The Ohio State.

In the first round, the Round of 32, No. 18 Srugo advanced by overcoming a first set deficit against No. 20 Sheeva Parbhu of Notre Dame. Falling behind in hard fought first set, 6-7(8), Srugo rallied to take the next two sets by scores of 6-4, 6-1.

In the Round of 16 Srugo will meet No. 5 Travis Helgeson of Georgia.

Cancado fell in his first round match-up against No.4 Lars Poerschke of Baylor, 6-2, 6-2. Cancado's appearance at the ITA National Indoors is not over as he will continue play in the consolation bracket.

The fields of the ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Tournament are made up of qualifiers from Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held across the country during October, the ITA National Small College champions, qualifiers from the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Tennis Championships and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships presented by Fila and at-large and wild card selections made by the ITA National Tournament Committee. Overall, more than 10,000 players from nearly 600 schools participate annually in the Wilson/ITA Regional and National Intercollegiate Championships.
