Well Balanced Attack Leads ODU Over American, 15-11

NORFOLK, Va. - Six different players recorded a goal on Saturday afternoon as the Old Dominion University women's lacrosse team defeated American University at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex, 15-11.
Sophomore midfielder Christina Rea scored a career-high five goals to lead the Lady Monarch offense while junior attacker Emily Austerberry chipped in four goals and an assist to go with a pair of groundballs and draw controls.
Rea scored the first three goals of the game for Old Dominion (2-4) as the Lady Monarchs took a 6-3 lead into intermission. A back and forth affair in the second half saw ODU score nine goals from six different players as the Eagles were able to cut the deficit down to two goals on two separate occasions.
The Lady Monarchs were able to respond both times American went on a rally in both the early part of the second half and again late as senior attacker Meredith Rogers scored a pair of goals and added two assists while junior attacker Courtney Clough scored her first two goals of the season in the second half. Junior attacker Theresa Brady also added her first career goal late in the second half for ODU.
For American (0-6), Kimberly Collins led the way with four goals and an assist while Emily Maher added two goals and five draw controls. In goal, Teal Harrison racked up 13 saves for the Eagles.
Sophomore goalkeeper collected 10 saves, seven in the second half along with a team-high five groundballs. Junior defender Kallie McCormick led the team with three forced turnovers.
ODU had the 23-15 advantage on groundballs while AU had the 18-10 edge in draw controls.
Old Dominion is off until Sunday, March 17 when they travel to Saint Joseph's for a 1 p.m. start in Philadelphia.
