Old Dominion Wraps Up Aaron Szambecki Team Race In Fifth

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion picked up wins over Coast Guard, Roger Williams and the Naval Academy as the Aaron Szambecki Team Race wrapped up Sunday on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk. The Monarchs finished the two-day regatta fifth overall.
During the three round-robins, ODU earned wins over each school in the eight-team field except first-place finisher St. Mary's. The Monarchs went 4-3 in round one, before posting a 3-4 record in both rounds two and three.
St. Mary's won the regatta with a 17-4 mark on the weekend. Roger Williams was second, but only finished two wins ahead of the Monarchs.
On Day 1, Old Dominion had victories over Coast Guard, Eckerd, Georgetown, the Naval Academy, Roger Williams and Stanford. The Monarchs went 2-0 against the Naval Academy, but lost both races against St. Mary's.
Conditions were excellent on Day 2 with a southeast breeze that ranged from 7-18 knots. ODU completed the three race sweep of the Naval Academy with an early morning victory. The Monarchs then went on to top Roger Williams and Coast Guard to improve to 2-1 against both teams.
Old Dominion will next be in action on April 3 at the Women's Dellenbaugh at Brown.
