NORFOLK, VA--. Junior midfielder Jared Kent (Marietta, GA) assisted on both ODU goals tonight as the 7th ranked Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs rallied to defeat the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks 2-1 Friday night in CAA semifinal action. With the win, ODU runs their overall record to 15-2-2 on the year and advance to face Hofstra on Sunday afternoon in the CAA Championship match. Senior goalie John Connelly (Rockville, MD) recorded eight saves in a winning effort. Sophomore David Horst (Pine Grove, PA) and senior forward Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) scored goals for Old Dominion.

UNCW jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the 50th minute of play when Juho Karjalainen converted on a penalty kick sent to the upper left post and past a diving Connelly. Old Dominion would get on the board in the 74th minute of action when Kent played a free kick into the box where Horst finished with a diving header for his first goal of the year. Cvilikas, named last night as CAA Player of the Year, finished another long cross sent from the left side by Kent with a header to earn his 5th game-winning goal of the season. Cvilikas now has 30 points off of 15 goals in 2005.

Connelly, who was named to the All-CAA first team, made two diving saves of UNCW shots in the 89th minute of play to preserve the Monarch advantage. ODU held a slight 17-15 advantage in shots taken, and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Kent is now tied with junior midfielder Gregg Mottinger (Carollton, TX) and junior midfielder Ross Mackenzie (Midlothian, VA) for the team lead with six assists.

The Monarchs return to the CAA Championship final on Sunday where they will meet No. 2 seed Hofstra in a rematch of last year's CAA tournament finale. Hofstra advanced on the strength of a 3-2 overtime come from behind win against James Madison. Game time for ODU/Hofstra on Sunday is 2:00 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Stadium
