Rutgers Defeats Old Dominion 3-0 in Women's Soccer
Sept. 15, 2002
The Rutgers women's soccer team (4-1-1) earned its third consecutive shutout with its 3-0 victory against Old Dominion (1-4) in the final round of the Rutgers DoubleTree Classic Sept. 15 at Yurcak Field.
Sophomore all-American Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) got RU on the scoreboard in the 10th minute. Lloyd's shot was deflected by a defender, and freshman Kelly Evans (Saddle Brook, NJ) headed the ball towards the goal and away from a charging ODU goalkeeper. Lloyd picked up the ball and scored her fifth goal of the year and 20th of her career, moving her into a tie for seventh on the RU career goals chart. She also moved into a tie for eighth place on the career points chart with her two assists later in the match (50).
Evans scored the Knights' second goal in the 50th minute, taking Lloyd's cross in the middle of the box and one-timing it past the ODU keeper. Junior Adrienne Dugandzic (Sicklerville, NJ) notched the final RU score with eight minutes remaining. Lloyd sent a long free kick to senior Boo Schubert (Delran, NJ) on the left side, and Dugandzic headed in Schubert's cross to the middle of the box.
The Lady Monarch's best scoring chance came in the 84th minute, when Hadaway collided with ODU's Heather Vaughan in the box and a penalty kick was awarded. The Monarchs could not take advantage as Diane Baucom's kick hit the cross bar.
Old Dominion will return home this weekend when they welcome Arkansas to town. The non-conference matchup will kick-off at 7:00 p.m.
