Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion University tennis director Darryl Cummings announced today that seniors Aleksandr Seleznev, Eidy Igarashi and Rodrigo Souza have been named team captains for the 2008 season.
"All three of these guys played a significant role last year in helping us advance to the NCAA's second round and their leadership will play an important role in the success of this year's team," said Cummings.
Seleznez was a second team All-CAA selection last season in singles and doubles play after posting a singles mark of 31-6 and a doubles mark of 16-12. He posted an 11-match winning streak at one point during the season, went 5-1 in conference matches and earned 22 straight set victories.
Igarashi earned second team All-CAA honors in doubles and third team in singles. He played to a 21-7 dual meet singles record playing mostly at the No. 4 singles position. In doubles he teamed with Seleznev to post a 15-8 dual meet mark in the spring. This fall the duo came together to win the men's A bracket at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational.
Souza posted a 25-13 singles mark a year ago, including an 18-10 record in dual meets. He also won the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational of Virginia Beach where he recorded several of his 18 straight set victories.
