Second-Ranked Monarchs Win CAA Opener, 1-0

NORFOLK, VA - The second-ranked ODU men's soccer team emerged victorious Friday night against UNC-Wilmington, winning 1-0 off a late Kevon Harris (Kingston, Jamaica) goal. Sam Cameon (Raleigh, NC) recorded his eighth shutout of the year and the team earned its ninth shutout of the year. The Monarchs are now two games away from the NCAA record of 11 consecutive shutouts. ODU is now 9-0-0, still the only undefeated Division I men's soccer team, and the Monarchs are now 1-0-0 in CAA play.

Brian Kluckman (Springfield, VA) preserved the Monarchs shutout streak in the first half, coming up with a dramatic save. For the game, Sam Cameron saved two shots and allowed no goals. The Seahawks' Brad Knighton had eight saves and allowed one goal.

The game remained scoreless until Kevon Harris scored with just under 10 minutes left in the game. For the game, ODU out-shot UNC-Wilmington 9-3 and had six penalty corners compared to three for the Seahawks. UNC-Wilmington now has a record of 8-3-1, with a 2-1-0 CAA record.

ODU next plays Sunday, Oct. 12, against VCU at home. The match begins at 1:00 PM. The previous four games have gone to overtime. VCU, the defending CAA champions, comes in to the game with a 8-3-0 record, 3-0-0 in the CAA.
