NORFOLK, VA -- Despite eight points off six goals and two assists from leading scorer Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA) the Old Dominion women's lacrosse team fell to CAA rival Delaware, 18-10, on a sunny afternoon at Foreman Field.

The loss drops the Lady Monarchs to 3-10 overall, and 0-5 in the conference. The Fightin' Blue Hens improved to 4-9 and 2-4 in the CAA.

Delaware struck early, finding the back of the Lady Monarch net less than a minute into the contest as Megan Hager scored off a pass from Erin Edell. Wosczyna, who scored four of the Lady Monarchs' five first half goals, would use back-to-back tallies to give Old Dominion its first and only lead of the game as the Lady Monarchs were up 2-1 with 21:06 left in the first half. From there, the Fightin' Blue Hens scored five unanswered goals in the span of 10 minutes with Edell scoring three of the five Delaware goals. Wosczyna recorded two more goals, one off a free position and another unassisted, to close the gap to within two, 6-4, with 8:25 remaining in the half while the Blue Hens and Lady Monarchs traded goals in the closing minutes to bring the score to the 7-5 halftime margin.

After Kristin Cellucci and Shannon Kron scored for the Fightin' Blue Hens in the early minutes of the second half, the Lady Monarchs' Kelly Kanara (Kennett Square, PA) tallied her second goal of the season to pull the Lady Monarchs within three, 9-6, with 24:42 remaining. After one of three Jenny Diana goals for Delaware in the second half, freshman Colleen Carver (Catonsville, MD) pulled the Lady Monarchs back within three, 10-7 on her second goal of the afternoon with 22:31 left to play, but Old Dominion would come no closer. Delaware rattled off three unanswered goals before Wosczyna ended the Lady Monarchs' scoring drought with 14:50 left as Old Dominion trailed, 13-9. The Blue Hens mustered another scoring attack with four answered goals, before Wosczyna and freshman Caroline Jacobs (Gaithersburg, MD) scored back-to-back Lady Monarch goals for the first time since the opening minutes of the second half. Reserve Chrisy DeVerna scored with less than a minute remaining to give Delaware the 18-10 victory, tying its largest margin of victory on the season.

Nine different Fightin' Blue Hens scored in the victory led by Diana with four, Edell and Kron with three. Allison Lynch collected four groundballs while Edell registered seven draw controls.

Wosczyna led the way with her eight points for Old Dominion to go along with a team-high five groundballs, eight draw controls, and four caused turnovers. Her younger sister, Sarah, scooped up four groundballs along with Jacobs.

In net, Old Dominion goalkeeper Michelle Gannon (Delmar, MD) made four saves, while Patrice Hughes recorded seven stops in net for the Fightin' Blue Hens.

The Lady Monarchs return to action on Sunday, April 18 when they host Towson in their final regular season home game. The game will be the annual scholarship contest with the $5.00 admission to benefit the Intercollegiate Foundation for Lacrosse Scholarships. Additionally, the six Lady Monarch seniors will be honored prior to the start of the game, while at its conclusion, Old Dominion and the Hampton Roads Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse will sponsor a clinic for interested girls in the Hampton Roads Community.
