Three Wrestlers Named to CAA Preseason All-Freshman Team

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) wrestling coaches have announced the Preseason All-Freshman team for the 2008-09 season, with ODU taking three of the ten slots. Rookies Joe Budi (184), Craig Wilson (141) and David Wilson (HWT) were all named as a part of the All-Rookie team for head coach Steve Martin. The trio are a part of the 10th best recruiting class in the nation for the Monarchs and will look to make an impact in their first year at ODU.

Budi, a freshman from Appleton, Wisconsin, is a two-time Wisconsin State Champion and was ranked as high as second in the nation in high school. The NHSCA Senior All-American is an Ironman Champ and also a Cheesehead Invitational Champion.

Craig Wilson, from Farmington, Missouri, brings three state titles to the mat for ODU. As a four-time finalist, he boasts the Missouri state record in career wins and takedowns. He was named the Dave Schultz Excellence Award winner for Missour and placed third at the Fargo Junior Freestyle Nationals.

David Wilson is a local product from Granby HS in Norfolk, Virginia and was ranked as high as 12th in the nation. He was an NHSCA All-American and a Virginia State Champion, finishing his career with a 214-20 career record.

The three freshman will be showcased at the season-opening Blue/Silver Intersquad next Sunday, October 26. The intersquad will be held at 12:30 in the Athletic Administration Building.
